本文旨在探討中山北路這樣一個都市空間，在其產生到現代的兩百多年內
，其街道所承載的空間意義之變遷。整個研究架構乃放在不同歷史階段的
臺灣社會脈絡中，分析空間意義生產過程中所隱藏之意識形態，來檢視中
山北路在各個歷史時期形成的功能與形式。本文以歷史階段分成: 清領時
期、日據時期、美援時期、依賴發展時期、再結構時期等五個階段為基礎
，探討在當時社會脈絡下，中山北路的發展機制；並分析在這樣的背景下
，國家賦予中山北路何種特殊的空間意義，而塑造了其空間形式。經由對
清領、日據、美援..等時期轉化過程的探討，可看出中山北路空間變遷的
歷史，不僅是臺灣社會生產過程縮影的歷史；更說明具支配力量對城市空
間的塑造有關，而分別發生在經濟、政治與意識形態等層面上。故可發現
：社會部門所消費之街道空間的功能與形式，乃源自於更深層的空間意義
的形成。而這空間意義的賦予，乃來自不同歷史脈絡中權力間的衝突和妥
協所表現出來的一個動態平衡的結果，並被傳譯成空間的形式，而投射在
現實的社會中。 |

The primary purpose of this thesis is to discuse the certain
urban space -- Chunge Shan N.RD. and its change of the spatial
meaning from the 18 century to nowaday.And, the frame of the
thesis are set by the analyses of Taiwin society structure and
look deeply into the role of the state ideology which is
hidden behind the created pro- cesses of the spatial meaning ,
in addition ,it also inspects the functions and appearances of
the Chunge Shan N.RD.in different historical periods . The
thesis is dvided by several historical periods,the Chin Dynasty
, the Japanese -occupied period , the time of U.S. Aid ,
dependent development period and re-construction period, we
also discuss the road''s development at each period and its
roles which the state expected at those periods . By the
investingation of the period change from Chin Dynasty ,the
Japanese-Occupied period to the time of U.S. Aid ,we can see
the spatial change of the Chunge Shan N.RD. which is not only
a microfilm of Taiwan society change , but also a best
explanation for the city''s history,specific socialed processes
and evaluation of its ruler and its people in the economy,
politics and ideology after that , we know that the functions
and the appearances of society department come from a deeper
spatial meaning , and the spatial meaning is original from a
balance consequence of different authority compromises in the
historical context, othrewise it had been interpreted to the
appearance projected to the real society .
